Allina is combining the two hospitals to eliminate duplicative services. Once the two hospitals merge, Allina will change Unity Hospital’s name to Mercy Hospital – Unity Campus.
In 2015, Allina moved Unity Hospital’s maternity services to a consolidated obstetrics unit at Mercy Hospital, the larger of the two facilities. In 2017, Allina plans to spend about $17.5 million to consolidate mental healthcare services at Unity, according to the report.
The health system said in a financial statement this month that it would spend about $103 million to reconfigure several different services across the two hospital campuses. It also plans to renovate Mercy’s intensive care unit, expand its emergency department and operating rooms and improve one of its parking ramps. At Unity, Allina plans to renovate its ER and inpatient mental health unit, and to expand and relocate its mental health clinic, according to the report.
